Muse by Meta: What It Is and What It Means for Business (2026)

Meta has a new AI assistant, and it is not called Meta AI anymore. It is called Muse by Meta — an AI agent launched on September 8, 2026, that goes beyond chatting. It can send emails, book travel, and even sell a car on your behalf, by connecting directly to your apps. This guide explains what Muse by Meta is, what it can do, and what your business should know before trusting it with real tasks.

What Is Muse by Meta?

Muse is Meta’s new personal AI assistant — the company’s big bet on what CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls “personal superintelligence.” Instead of just answering questions like a chatbot, Muse is an agent: you give it a goal, and it carries out the steps itself.

Each Muse agent runs on its own virtual machine — basically its own private computer in the cloud. That means it keeps working in the background even after you close the app. You can talk to it through a dedicated Muse app or through WhatsApp. Meta says it is coming to its smart glasses soon too. Right now it is available in the US only, with wider rollout expected later.

Under the hood, the assistant is powered by Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1 model, the same engine behind the big Meta AI upgrade in July 2026 that added task automation and calendar connections.

What Muse Can Actually Do

This is where Muse gets interesting — and a little scary. You choose which apps it can access (email, calendar, payments, shopping, smart home, and more), and then it acts inside them:

Send emails and messages on your behalf, after you approve what it connects to.

Book travel — flights, hotels, and plans — by working across booking sites and your calendar.

Sell things for you. Meta’s own example: Muse can list and sell a car for you, handling buyer messages.

Run business errands. A September 29, 2026 update called “Muse for Small Business” added connections to QuickBooks, Shopify, Stripe, Canva, Dropbox, Asana, Notion, Slack, and Zoom. Meta suggests using it to analyze sales, audit expenses, draft advertisements, and flag emails that need replies.

Keep a log. Muse records every action it takes, so you can review what it did — important when an AI is touching your money and your inbox.

A basic version is free. Heavier use costs $20 or $100 a month, according to Meta.

The Honest Trade-Offs

No new technology is all upside. Here is what to weigh:

Privacy. An agent that reads your email and moves your money needs deep access to your life. Reuters reported that even inside Meta, some staff raised concerns that the technology can mismanage access to sensitive personal data. Meta delayed the launch from April to September 2026 to add more safety work, and says it now meets its minimum bar. You can opt out of having your chats used to train Meta’s models, and an encrypted version is planned.

Availability. US-only for now. If your business is in Pakistan or elsewhere, you are waiting for now — but the direction is clear.

Trust but verify. Meta itself recommends reviewing anything Muse drafts before sending, especially anything with pricing, promises, or deadlines. Good advice for every AI agent, not just this one.

Muse vs ChatGPT Agents vs Claude: Quick Take

The AI world is moving from chatbots to agents — AI that does things, not just says things. OpenAI has its “Dots” agents, Anthropic is pushing agentic Claude, and now Meta has Muse. The pattern is the same everywhere: connect the AI to your apps and let it work.

Muse’s advantage is distribution: billions of people already use WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. If the agent lives where you already live, adoption is easy. Its question mark is trust — will businesses hand their inbox and payments to Meta? The next year will answer that.
